This course examines Indigenous knowledge-based approaches
to environmental management. The first part of the course is
dedicated to fostering a better understanding of and
appreciation for Indigenous land-based philosophies and ways
of knowing from across the Americas. Key differences between
Western and Indigenous approaches to environmental
management will also be highlighted. The second half of the
course deals with finding more effective ways of integrating
Indigenous land-use principles and knowledges in the
management of Indigenous and non-Indigenous territories in
Canada and worldwide.
